Our Evolving Story
Right now, SDSRA helps materials move from one organization to another through swap meets, shared resources, and community exchange — keeping useful items in use and helping more people access what they need.
Where We Are Now
Where We Started
Before SDSRA became an organization, it began as a question. After attending a sustainability session at USITT, Nate Parde wondered if there could be a better way for creative materials to stay in use instead of going to waste.
That question stayed with him for several years, until in January 2025, he called Ben Thoron and asked, “Could we start a creative reuse project?”Ben thought it was possible. Sean Boyd and Patti Saraniero joined in, and together they became, in Nate’s words, the “instigators.”
What followed was a community conversation, and then a first swap meet on a November Saturday morning in the parking lot of The Old Globe’s Technical Center.There was coffee, donuts, and a lot of crossed fingers. Fifteen organizations showed up. Ten brought items to share, and ten took items away. That was the beginning of SDSRA’s growing reuse network.
